John Roland Preis, John, had many names. Son, to one loving mother. Dad, to three scrappy kids. Brother to four adoring sisters. Uncle John to dozens. John the Plumber to the masses. Friend to everyone.
If our dad had a motto, it was “Never Grow Up,” and he never did. Known for charming old ladies, dogs, waitresses, babies and even hitchhikers, he moved through life with a childish zeal and innocence that is far too scarce in this world.
We hope that you’ll remember that John was a lifelong Balti-moron (self-proclaimed), a veteran, proud father, dog whisperer, “avid” fisherman and the best damn plumber Dundalk, Maryland has ever seen. But we know you’ll remember the way he made you feel - silly, carefree, heard, protected, loved.
So next time you see a pack of Marlboro Reds, a pair of tortoise shell wayfarers, or a white Chevy van, think of our dad. Let it inspire you to befriend a stranger, tell a joke, or take your kids on an adventure. That is his legacy.
John is survived by his three children: Tanya Lynn, John Jacob and Jade Margaret; his sisters Stephanie, Susan, Sharon and Sandy; his mother Marian; a rowdy bunch of nieces and nephews; and countless other friends and relations.
The family has elected to forgo a formal funeral, but would like to invite all who knew John to a Celebration of Life in his honor, details of which will be shared in the coming days.
We love you dad. Thank you for 65 years of adventure.
