Alice Mast Obituary

Alice Mae Mast (Rabalais), 81, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland. Born in Mansura, Louisiana, Alice carried the warmth, strength, and generosity of her Southern roots with her throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Verdun Francis Monin Rabalais and Lawrence Arthur Rabalais, and by her brother, Daniel Rabalais.

Alice is survived by her beloved husband, John Mahmoud Mast; her sons, James Mast and David Mast (married to Robin Motter-Mast); and her cherished grandchildren: Rylee Mast and Lauren Lacour, children of James; and Tyler and Isabella Mast, children of David.

For more than 25 years, Alice worked as a cardiovascular secretary. She wasn’t the physician. She wasn’t the nurse. But she was the steady presence behind the scenes — organizing, reassuring, and helping patients and clinicians navigate moments that often felt overwhelming. She brought calm to chaos and compassion to clinical spaces, offering comfort in ways that often went unseen but were deeply felt.

Beyond her professional life, Alice was a superb cook and a devoted homemaker. She created a home that was warm, welcoming, and steady — a place where family gathered, stories were shared, and everyone left well-fed and well-loved. And then there was the work no title ever captured.

Alice showed up for her family in ways that made careers possible and parenting manageable. She retired early to care for her grandchildren, which filled her life with joy and new meaning. She created stability when life felt busy and stretched. She never asked for recognition. She simply showed up — with love, consistency, and a meal always ready on the stove. She nourished her family not only with food, but with kindness and warmth that filled every room she entered.

In the last chapter of her life, her everyday heroism became even clearer. For ten years, she lovingly cared for her husband after a stroke left him paralyzed. Ten years of quiet devotion, patience, and choosing love in the smallest, most ordinary moments — the kind no one applauds, but that change everything.

She may never have called herself resilient. She may never have thought of herself as a hero. But she lived both — every single day. Alice was a woman of impact. An everyday hero. A steady light for her family and friends. Her legacy is not only in the years she lived, but in the love, she gave so freely and faithfully. Her life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and the extraordinary power of simply showing up.
